Coronavirus lockdowns have claimed yet another business here in San Diego County, and this one is quite well known.
Phils BBQ in San Marcos will be closing its doors after 10 years in business.
Operations at the San Marcos location ceased in March, when what was supposed to be a “2-week” lockdown “to flatten the curve” went into effect. Owner Phil Pace told NBC 7 that he estimated a loss of $10,000 to $15,000 per day if the restaurant stayed open. Now, Phil said they’ve lost $200,000 since they made the decision to close, and that closure will no longer be temporary.
“If it wasn’t for COVID, I feel San Marcos probably would’ve had a chance,” said Pace. “The decision to close really, truly was heartfelt.”
Luckily, most of the employees have been transferred to other locations, saving them from joining the massive amount of people who are unemployed as a result of COVID lockdowns.
This news comes about a week after San Diego County was moved into purple tier and just one day after Governor Newsom issued a new stay-at-home order that implements at 10 pm curfew for all “non-essential” activities.
