State Senator Pat Bates Leading Effort to Curtail Drug Addiction in California

State Senator Patricia Bates applauded the recent announcement that California’s program to help residents safely dispose of their unwanted medicine has been expanded throughout the state.

Thanks to a $3 million grant from the California Department of Health Care Services, 320 drug disposal bins have been added to independent pharmacies, local law enforcement agencies, and Albertsons stores across California.

“The establishment of more places for Californians to safely dispose of their unwanted medicines will help protect public health and hopefully save lives,” said Senator Bates. “I thank the California Department of Health Care Services and its partners for working to expand access to this vital program during these especially challenging times.”

Residents can find a disposal bin near them at TakeBackDrugs.org, with many bins located in San Diego and Orange counties. Though this won’t immediately solve the growing issue of drug dependency, it provides an accessible way for those struggling with addiction to get rid of dangerous substances, which is certainly a step in the right direction.
