Ammar Campa-Najjar Illegally Accepts Thousands of Dollars of Campaign Donations

Ethics Complaint Filed for Violating City Campaign Laws

Chula Vista – The City of Chula Vista requires that all donations to a Mayoral campaign must be personal individual contributions and prohibits donations from Political Action Committees and other campaign committees. Campa-Najjar transferred $7,430.27 from his failed State Assembly campaign (see attached).

Russ Hall, a lifetime Chula Vista resident, filed an ethics complaint with the Chula Vista Enforcement Authority stating that Campa-Najjar violated campaign rules by illegally adding thousands of dollars to benefit his campaign for Mayor.

“As well as not being from Chula Vista, Campa-Najjar appears to have no basic understanding of simple to follow campaign finance and residency laws.  Per his own words he said he was born, grew up, and is the son of East County.  He is trying to bulldoze his way to elected office by buying the Chula Vista Mayor’s seat. He doesn’t care about Chula Vista and sees this just as a steppingstone for Congress,” said Hall.

Campa-Najjar failed in running for Congress twice and then failed again in his attempt to run for State Assembly.  He recently changed his voter registration to Joe’s address in Chula Vista, while still living in San Diego in a multi-million-dollar condo owned by his girlfriend, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs.

Campa-Najjar has a pattern of misleading voters for his own personal gain by using his family’s addresses to shop around for different elected positions. He used his mother’s Jamul address for East County’s 50th Congressional District in both the 2018 and 2020 cycle. Campa-Najjar also used his aunt’s Bonita address for a 2022 exploratory committee for the State Assembly. Now he is using his cousin’s Chula Vista address for Chula Vista’s Mayoral race.

About Russ Hall: Russ Hall is a lifelong Chula Vista resident in District 2. He has served on several city commissions, including the Planning Commission.
