Assembly Republicans Circulate Petition Against Democrats’ Health Care Takeover

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republicans began circulating a petition opposing Democrats’ attempt to take over California’s health care system. In signing the petition, Californians can add their names to the bipartisan list of people who disagree with Democrats’ effort to increase middle-class taxes, end Medicare for California seniors, put unaccountable bureaucrats in charge of health care, gut taxpayer protections in Prop. 13, kick patients off their current health plans and reduce quality and access to care.

“It’s not just Republicans who oppose government-run health care. People from across the political spectrum know just how bad this scheme and its astronomical price tag would be for Californians,” said Assembly Republican Leader Marie Waldron (Valley Center). “Any Californian who doesn’t want to turn their health care over to state bureaucrats and pay for it with massive tax increases should add their name to this petition.”

In the last month, Democrats have advanced their proposal to take over California’s health care system, AB 1400, on party-line votes. AB 1400 is expected to face a vote from the full Assembly in the coming days. Its companion measure, ACA 11, would impose $163 billion in new taxes, the largest tax increase in state history, with added costs for small businesses and the middle class.

Californians can add their names to the petition at ASMRC.org/StopSinglePayer. Completed petitions will be presented on the floor of the Assembly prior to the vote on AB 1400.
