Drew Brees, Super Bowl champion and acclaimed NFL quarterback, is looking to expand his horizons past the football field. Having experience with Football ‘N’ America, Brees plans to take a similar structure to other sports-his first being soccer and the partnership with Surf Sports, a premier youth soccer organization.
Football ‘N’ America, initiated in the spring of 2018, has already gained great success within youth flag football. The program plans to expand to La Jolla from its original location in Carmel Valley. The main motivation behind his program is getting kids more involved with sports given the importance it has held in his life. Interestingly enough, Brees gives credit to his tennis and baseball playing days for his success in football. Even though there are not many similarities between the sports, the skills he learned from the sports were critical in the formation of his football career.
Despite his life with the New Orleans Saints, Brees knows his future lies in San Diego. He is set on raising his kids and having them play sports in San Diego. In addition, having played for the Chargers before, he is convinced the Chargers will return from Los Angeles back to San Diego. It even brought an interesting segue for whether he would play for the Chargers again but at the current moment, he is remaining with the Saints.
As much as Brees loves professional football, he is already planning for what is next. After his retirement, he fully intends on returning to youth sports and handing down the many life lessons he has been given over the years. His work with Surf Sports is just the beginning for him in terms of fostering involvement in the youth sports community.
