The second attempt to recall Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon went underway on Monday. Organizers failed to reach the qualifying number of signatures on October 26th, but despite this prior shortcoming, the self described non-partisan group “Recall District Attorney Gascon” intends to reach 580,000 signatures in the next 160 days.
Over in San Francisco, DA Chesa Boudin has also been subject to criticism for the out-of-control looting which recently emerged all over the bay area, proving that thousands of California residents are officially fed-up with liberal justice policies. Of course, this criticism is entirely warranted given the persistent crime rampaging through two of the nation’s major metropolitan areas. According to LAPD, “follow-home robberies” — when victims in affluent areas are followed until they are in a remote area and robbed — have become a concerning pattern as of late. Other crimes such as the recent shooting death of philanthropist Jacqueline Avant at her home in Beverly Hills have many citizens on high alert and concerned for their well-being.
However easy on crime officials are to blame for making our urban areas uncontrollably dangerous, LAPD detective James McBride told FOX that “Bad guys are released quicker than we can finish the paperwork, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.” In the case of the Avant murder, the suspect, 29-year-old Aariel Maynor, had been released on parole back in September. Maynor has a criminal record including multiple robberies and and assaults. McBride said that an individual with a rap sheet like Maynor should have never been released, “He should have gotten a longer sentence. For his rap sheet and the violent crimes he’s been involved in, he should never have been offered a plea bargain.”
Police officers have suggested that Proposition 47 has enabled both LA and SF’s looting surge, with its implementation in 2014 making shoplifting charges of $950 or less lowered from felonies to misdemeanors, Governor Gavin Newsom was one of the notable proponents of the bill back when he was Lieutenant Governor. Clearly, an overwhelming number of California’s Democratic officials aren’t concerned with keeping ordinary residents secure. On the brightside, conservatives can chip away at California’s Democratic domination by signing the petition to recall DA Gascon.
The Recall District Attorney Gascon website ensures that “this movement is growing rapidly and gathering the support and resources needed to flip the script on DA George Gascon.”
