The Legislative Analysts’ Office reported a $31 billion budget surplus next year, meaning California can focus on more spending projects. The government here says that they plan on funding education, homelessness, and environmental efforts to help better California. But the primary source of the money goes to none other than stimulus checks.
The dictator-in-chief Gavin Newsom unveiled his plan to spend a whopping $12 billion on another round of stimulus checks for Californians. Newsom explained that “How we framed that historic surplus last year, similarly, we will frame our approach this year.” So Newsom plans to incentivize even more people to leave the workforce since the previous payments led to.
Additionally, this massive spending spree will increase prices, such as skyrocketing gas prices (one of the reasons we lost an electoral vote). But when confronted with this fact, Governor Newsom fired back saying “We have to accelerate our transition — once and for all — away from fossil fuels.” So Newsom’s strategy is to blame gas for rising prices rather than his own incompetence.
This reason, combined with capital gains for the wealthiest here in the Golden State, accounts for 26% of Californians remaining unemployed, and our poverty rate is the highest in America. All this despite California holding the largest economy across the nation.
Thankfully, Republican Assembly Leader Marie Waldron exposed this utter hypocrisy. “There’s something wrong when the state is flush with extra cash — $750 for every man, woman, and child — while ordinary people have to choose between putting food on the table and filling their gas tank.” Gavin Newsom is the epitome of the saying ‘throw money at a problem, and it will go away,’ except cash can’t solve everything as we will soon see.
