Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel offered his outlook on the timeline of the pandemic. He indicated that the pandemic could soon be over by next year, where finally the world will turn back to normalcy. He points to the vaccination effort, predicting there will be enough vaccines for everyone by mid- 2022.
On Thursday, he was interviewed by Swiss newspaper Neue Zuercher Zeitung. He stated that: “If you look at the industry-wide expansion of production capacities over the past six months, there should be enough doses by the middle of next year so that everyone on this earth can be vaccinated.”
The newspaper also asked him about people who do not want to get vaccinated and expect. Bancel offered his explanation, stating: “Those who do not get vaccinated will immunize themselves naturally because the Delta variant is so contagious. In this way, we will end up in a situation similar to that of the flu.”
According to the world data tracker, 43.9% of the world’s population has received at least one dose of a Coronavirus vaccine. Meanwhile, in the US, 54.9% of people are fully vaccinated. To reach Bancel’s prediction, there would have to be a robust worldwide effort. However, with the current administration ignoring the science of natural immunity, normality might take a little longer. Biden being so steadfast on vaccination rates to lift mandates, it seems like we are going to be in this predicament for a while.
