This year’s 4th of July celebrations are expected to bring record crowds as many of San Diego’s biggest firework shows were cancelled in the wake of COVID-19. If you’re planning on going out and celebrating your freedoms this holiday weekend here are most of the locations you can go see fireworks with friends and family.
San Diego Bay
Starting in the south we have the Big Bay Boom, San Diego’s largest 4th of July fireworks show. With fireworks starting at 9pm you should get to your viewing location early to make sure you have a front-row seat to watch. Some of the best viewing locations include Shelter Island, Harbor Island, North Embarcadero, South Embarcadero, Cesar E. Chavez Park, and the Coronado Ferry Landing.
Santee
At the Town Center Community Park, Santee will be hosting Santee Salute. One of the most patriotic events of the night featuring live music. The show is set to start at 9pm however if you’re hoping to go to the park you have to buy a parking pass this year to ensure a spot will be saved for you. Organizers recommend getting there before 8pm as shuttle service is not going to be available this year.
El Cajon
The best viewing location for El Cajon’s firework show is going to be from Kennedy Park. Fireworks are set to be launched from Granite Hills High starting at 9pm.
Poway
Moving up to north county Poway is going to be holding two shows, one launched from Poway High and the other being launched from Poway Sportsplex. Both set to go off at 9pm. If you want to watch from Poway High you’ll be joined by a live DJ, games, and other activities for your family. The cost is $5 per person while kids under 11 get in for free.
Ramona
Presented by the Ramona Chamber of Commerce, Ramona Rotary Club, and the Kiwanis Club of Ramona. Fireworks are set to launch at 9pm from the field behind Olive Peirce Middle School. Before the show you can bring your family to a family picnic which begins at 4pm and will include food vendors.
San Marcos
Launching from Bradley Park starting at 9pm, the City of San Marcos has announced that this year’s celebration will be a bit different. The City is encouraging residents to watch from their backyards as there won’t be an event held at Bradley park to accompany the fireworks due to COVID concerns.
Escondido
This display is going to be visible from anywhere in central Escondido, including Grape Day Park. Launching from Woodward Avenue, the city announced that Grape Day Park will be open past dusk however regular park rules will remain, including no barbecues, dogs, or alcohol.
Vista
Vista’s fireworks are going off at 9pm from the Moonlight Amphitheater at Brengle Terrace Park, following an Independence Day Celebration starting at 5pm. Parking will be $15 per car and entry into Moonlight Amphitheater is $5 per person.
Oceanside
Oceanside’s fireworks will be held on July 3rd, also celebrating the city’s 133rd anniversary. The show is starting at 9pm with the best viewing location being Rancho Del Oro Drive.
Although that wraps up our list of major firework shows being held you can be sure that other ones will be able to be spotted wherever you decide to go for the night. Just remember to stay safe, don’t launch fireworks on your own especially since we’re in the height of a wildfire season. Also remember to make sure if you do go out, to keep your pets safely inside as the days following the 4th of July usually see a spike in lost dogs and cats.
