The Port of San Diego’s long-time Fourth of July tradition the “Big Bay Boom” is returning this year after the event was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID concerns. However, since most of San Diego is vaccinated the city felt it was right to bring back this missed tradition to show San Diegans that life can go back to normal. Even if it may be one event at a time.
The “Big Bay Boom” will be held on Shelter Island, Harbour Island, North Embarcadero, south Embarcadero, Caesar E Chavez Park and Coronado Ferry Landing. The fireworks are scheduled to start at 9 p.m. on the 4th of July and last roughly 20 minutes.
The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will provide everyone with one free extra ticket for each fare-paying customer on all routes on July 4th. This helps the people who miss and want to go the long time tradition and don’t own a car or transport to the bay. It will also be streamed on Fox 5 and affiliates on Telecast and also broadcasted on KGB 101.5 FM.
