A Recap Of The San Diego Young Republicans May Happy Hour Featuring Richard Bailey

Written by Will Seykora

The San Diego Young Republicans have been hard at work keeping the spirit of freedom alive in San Diego. Thursday evening they hosted their monthly Happy Hour at The Village SD, one of the most outspoken restaurants that stood up against Newsom’s unlawful lockdowns which we wrote about back in December (you can read that here). With guest speaker Coronado Mayor Richard Bailey it was guaranteed to attract a crowd. Which it did with over fifty attendees all eager to meet fellow Republicans and hear one of San Diego’s most popular elected officials speak.

In attendance were other notable figures such as retired Navy Captain Armen Kurdian who is running for Vista City Council, founder of Nothing Bundt Cakes and 36th State Senate Candidate Mara Fortin, and Dr. Melanie Burkholder who is a decorated former Secret Service Agent, small business owner, and candidate for the 76th Assembly District.

During Mayor Baileys’ speech, he mentioned the importance of the real connection he has with the citizens of Coronado. He recalled the time and effort he put into knocking on every door in Coronado when he chose to run for City Council in 2012, he said that during his campaign he often heard from his Coronado neighbors “I’m sorry you’re too young to win, but I’m still going to vote for you.” He ended up winning his City Council seat by 106 votes, he said he’s positive that at least 108 people said he was too young to win but they would still vote for him. Fast forward to 2020 he was re-elected as Mayor of Coronado with 99.16% of the vote. Showing how being someone of character pays off.

The San Diego Young Republicans showed that in-person events are not a thing of the past but a staple of American values and they have no plans to stop anytime soon.
