Despite Californians up and down the state calling for schools to reopen, State Democrats have decided that instruction should slowly transition back to in-person. But that is not the case for the unaccompanied children from across the border. According to Peter Hasson at Fox News, teachers from the San Diego Unified School District will be volunteering to teach these immigrant children in person.
County Supervisor Jim Desmond highlighted how preposterous this move is during an interview with Fox News.
He states that there are 130,000 child students in San Diego who have not been inside a classroom for about a year. Of the many things this pandemic has taught us, one is that online education is not equivalent to that of an in-person one. The taxpayers of California are paying for their children to get an adequate education. Instead, the state has decided to put the needs of the non-resident children seeking asylum before those of the resident children whose parents actually have paid into the tax system. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-CA, told Fox News, “The decision to provide in-person instruction to [undocumented immigrants] is outrageous and parents have every right to be angry.”
Many San Diego parents are displeased with this decision. Emily Diaz, a San Diego parent, commented, “The system is broken when San Diego teachers are teaching migrant children in person, but the 100k students of taxpaying families at San Diego Unified School District are stuck learning in Zoom school.”
