Despite flights coming back, the schedule will not return to how it was pre-pandemic. Before March, when the cancelations began, there were daily flights between San Diego and Japan. Under the most up to date schedule, however, there will only be flights three days each week; departing San Diego on Wednesday’s, Friday’s, and Sunday’s. Flight’s are currently scheduled through April 15th and are likely subject to change at any time depending on the amount of demand and state of the pandemic.
“The San Diego Tourism Authority is thrilled to have Japan Airlines resume its service between Tokyo and San Diego,” said Julie Coker, president of the San Diego Tourism Authority. “Japan is the fifth-largest overseas market for visitors to San Diego, and many San Diego-based companies have strong business ties to Japan. We are excited for the opportunity to welcome visitors back in 2021.”
The announcement of new resumed flights to Japan came on the same day that the CDC announced it would require a negative COVID-19 test for all air travelers entering the US from other countries.
