The Hillcrest Farmers Market has officially reopened after the state of California classified farmers markets as essential food services.
The Hillcrest Farmers Market is one of the largest and most popular farmers markets in San Diego and has nearly 200 different vendors, each delivering fresh produce or other goods such as flowers, clothing, and more every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. As of now, however, the only vendors allowed to operate are certified farmers, food vendors, and some critical retail.
As a result of new COVID guidelines, sampling and handling of produce by consumers will no longer be allowed. Now consumers will be asked to point to the items they want and the vendor will prepare it for them. In addition to restrictions on food handling, new guidelines stipulate that only one adult per family group will be allowed entry and children will only be permitted to enter under the supervision of a parent, guardian, or other caretaker.
Parking on the street is free in Hillcrest on Sundays. Additionally, 300 free parking spaces are available at the School District parking lot on Campus Avenue and 153 free spaces are also available at the Hillcrest DMV. A number of busses pass by the market including the 1, 7, 10, 11, and 215 lines.
