Over the weekend and into Monday, former State Senator Joel Anderson increased his lead over Poway Mayor Steve Vaus from 156 to 259 votes, as ballot counting continues in the District 2 Board of Supervisor’s race to succeed Dianne Jacob.
Nearly 290,000 votes have been counted in the contest, with Anderson slightly ahead, 50.04 to Vaus’s 49.96 percent.
With the Registrar of Voters counting provisional ballots, the process has slowed. Saturday to Monday, 669 votes were added in the race, with Anderson marked on over 57 percent of the ballots.
Every count update since the first tallies on election night has favored Anderson, who initially trailed Vaus by over 4,000 votes.
About 10,000 ballots are left to process countywide. Since marked ballots in District 2 are running about 11 to 15 percent of every 1,000 ballots processed in the entire region, there could be between 1,100 to 1,500 votes left to tally in the race.
