County Supervisor Jim Desmond Provides Update Showing that San Diego is Moving in the Right Direction Toward Reopening

Though it seems as if the hope for reopening is dimming every day, San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond has continued to reassure citizens that things are looking up. His COVID-19 update from earlier this week emphasized some good news: numbers are improving, and San Diego is moving closer and closer to getting off California’s watchlist.

We peaked at about 500 COVID-19 patients, but now we’re down to about 390. Less than 10% of hospitalizations are COVID-related, a sure sign that San Diego is doing a good job of limiting the spread. Desmond encourages those interested in keeping up with the latest updates to go to the County Website.

As many who follow Supervisor Desmond’s updates know, San Diego County has set up a stimulus grant fund to help businesses and nonprofit entities impacted by COVID-19. The application deadline for those in Supervisor District 5 to apply for grants is this Friday, so those interested shouldn’t hesitate to apply here.

Though Desmond emphasizes that we must continue to protect our most vulnerable and stop the spread, we also need to be aware of the struggles that our businesses and communities are facing.

Many businesses, such as hair salons, took great precautions when they were allowed to reopen, but were forced to close due to a couple of irresponsible businesses in other sectors. Supervisor Desmond continues to insist that these blanket shutdowns are unjust and unfairly target those who have taken every precautioned required, and are simply trying to stay afloat.
