SACRAMENTO – Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) and legislative Republicans recently signed on to a letter requesting an audit of the Employment Development Department (EDD).
EDD is the state agency that processes unemployment benefits. Since mid-March when the Governor ordered the government-sanctioned shutdown, more than six million Californians have filed for unemployment benefits and some are still waiting for the much-needed relief payments from EDD. Signed by Republican members from both the Assembly and Senate, this letter is a bicameral effort to demand answers from EDD. Click here to read the letter.
Senate Republican Leader Grove issued the following statement:
“Californians cannot wait any longer for relief while this state agency has failed to take the necessary steps to ensure timely payments. It is outrageous that since March, some unemployment cases have not been processed and clerical errors have resulted in jobless individuals still waiting for financial relief.
“This state agency cannot become another failure like the DMV. Californians deserve better response and action during their time of need,” said Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove.
