76th Assembly District candidate Melanie Burkholder has been connecting with San Diegans through her series of weekly town hall live streams on Facebook. Last week, she discussed her staunch opposition to AB 5 with Carmel Foster, a leading figure in the anti-AB 5 movement.
The disastrous bill has already severely hurt thousands of independent contractors across the state. Teachers, translators, rideshare drivers, and hairstylists, artists, and construction workers are among many members of the gig-based economy who have lost their ability to work on their own time thanks to this discriminatory legislation.
The effects of AB 5 have only become more clear and damaging in the midst of the COVID-19 lockdowns, as California workers have been prevented from working. Burkholder joins her fellow Republicans in supporting worker freedoms while protecting California’s gig economy.
Please join me for my town hall at 3pm this Thursday on FB. My special guest this week is writer @asthegirlturns who penned a three part investigative series involving the passing of AB5 and the exploitation of Carmel Foster (#AB5 whistleblower). #RepealAB5 #AB5stories @Ab5Of pic.twitter.com/P3XiqC0HK0
