SACRAMENTO – Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) announced that the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) has awarded funding to Orange and San Diego counties to help house young adults who are at-risk of becoming homeless.
“I thank the California Department of Housing and Community Development for awarding vital funding to Orange and San Diego counties to help house at-risk youth,” said Senator Bates, a member of the Senate Housing Committee. “This funding will help give more young adults the opportunity to become self-sufficient and pursue their dreams. I will continue to advocate that every community receives its fair share of resources from state programs.”
The County of Orange’s Social Services Agency received $208,000 and the County of San Diego’s Child Welfare Services received $480,000. Funding for the state grants comes from the Transitional Housing Program funded by the 2019-20 California state budget.
The program provides funding to counties for child welfare services agencies to help young adults aged 18 to 25 years find and maintain housing, with priority given to those formerly in the foster care or probation systems. Eligible applicants are county child welfare services agencies that demonstrate a need to provide housing for young adults aged 18 to 25 years.
