In a bold new video posted by County Supervisor Jim Desmond, we learn the true toll that the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders are taking on San Diegans.
It begins by reminding viewers that this is not a partisan issue—everyone is affected by these orders in one way or another. We then learn that 25 percent of San Diegans have filed for unemployment in the past month. Hundreds of thousands of people in San Diego are struggling because of Governor Newsom’s restrictive policies.
Desmond provides a few examples of the devastation and suffering being endured by local businesses and families.
Mr. and Mrs. McNeily, owners of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More, had to lay off their entire staff, including their son.
Sunrise Cafe, a staple in Vista for over 27 years, will be closing permanently due to the economic effects of COVID-19.
Desmond says that he’s “heard from San Diegans that are struggling to simply survive and will never financially recover.”
The time to end the restrictive and stifling stay-at-home order is now. Too many people are having their financial world turned upside down, and it doesn’t need to be this way. Reopening the economy strategically will allow people to get back to work and restore their livelihood.
The video concludes with a clear and bold message:
“It is time. Let’s reduce our unemployment rate and get San Diegans back to work!”
