Melanie Burkholder Encourages Focusing on Mental Health and Launches GoFundMe for First Responders

Though the fear and uncertainty that come with the COVID-19 pandemic are affecting everybody, it’s especially dangerous for those already struggling with their mental health. Health professionals around the world are increasingly worried about the psychological impact of self-isolation and the unintended emotional consequences that the pandemic might have.

Among these experts is 76th Assembly district candidate Melanie Burkholder. On the topic of ways to cope with COVID-19, Burkholder states that “what we can do are the things we’re really good at: staying strong, staying focused, and being aware of how we’re feeling.” She recommends that we stay conscious of how we’re feeling on a daily basis, and to find things in our routines that make us happy.

Burkholder has also started a GoFundMe to raise money for feed first responders. She aims to purchase takeout from local restaurants closed due to the pandemic, and to donate that food to the people who need them—a win-win for San Diego.

Above all else, Burkholder implores San Diegans to stay positive. “We will get to the other side of this… we must continue to support each other.”
