Governor Newsom Continuing to Work with President Trump on the Coronavirus Outbreak

Written by Nicholas Vetrisek

As the coronavirus continues to infect thousands of Californians, both President Trump and Governor Newsom have announced plans to help stop the virus. Newsom orchestrated the openings of two new hospitals, while the president has consistently offered medical, financial, administrative, and institutional support to California.

President Trump directed mobile hospitals to the state, deployed the U.S. Navy hospital ship “Mercy” to Los Angeles, and provided funding for National Guard deployments. Trump’s declaration of a “major disaster” in California at Newsom’s request allowed the state to receive more emergency aid.

In addition to the aid from President Trump, Newsom said that the state is also trying to address a potential shortfall of hospital beds by getting 10,000 more. California is also leasing for $30 million Seton Medical Center in Daly City and St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles for three months, Newsom stated.

It has been a long time since we’ve had such a profound cause to put politics aside and unite. While many in the media and various levels of government remain committed to reckless partisanship, Trump and Newsom continue to show what great progress can be made when our priorities are in order.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, it’s great to see Governor Newsom working with President Trump on an issue that transcends politics.
