In the past few weeks, several local Democratic leaders, candidates, and elected officials have tested positive for COVID-19. It is just the latest indication that this virus is a major threat to the San Diego community.
As the Voice of San Diego reported last week, Chula Vista Councilman Steve Padilla, San Diego County Democratic Party Chairman Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, City Council candidate Kelvin Barrios, and San Diego Democrats for Equality member Jehoan Espinoza have all confirmed their coronavirus infections. Several others are suspected to have suffered from the virus, but had not been confirmed at the time of publishing.
While many in the mainstream media and national politics more broadly continue to make a convoluted partisan game out of the pandemic, Republican Party of San Diego County Chairman Tony Krvaric went a very different route in response to the news.
Here's to full, swift recoveries for @SanDiegoDems and everyone battling #COVID19. America will beat this thing and come back even stronger. "San Diego Democrats Confront Possible Coronavirus Spread In Their Community" @VoiceOfSanDiego https://t.co/pUJJ8C5jgi

He rightfully set politics aside, wishing the local Democrats a swift and full recovery. The time for contentious debate and rigorous campaigning will re-emerge at some point, but for now there are bigger concerns to worry about.
It’s refreshing to see local leaders working together in a truly bipartisan manner to put the needs of San Diegans above all else. From the San Diego City Council and San Diego County Board of Supervisors to various mayors and municipalities, everyone recognizes our common interest in combating the spread of COVID-19 and being there for one another.
