On Saturday, the San Diego State Aztecs men’s basketball team played the Utah State Aggies for the Mountain West Conference Championship. The highly entertaining matchup saw the Aztecs lead by 16 at one point, but ultimately came down to the wire.
With just a few seconds left in the game, the Aztecs were down by three. Superstar guard Malachi Flynn launched a three-point prayer from half court:

A very disappointing outcome, especially considering that the Aztecs began the season 26-0 and were poised to be a one seed in the NCAA tournament this March. Nonetheless, SDSU still finished the season 30-2 (17-1 in conference) and will still have a very high seed in the tournament. They gave up the fourth-fewest points per game in the country (59.5) and finished top ten in both offensive and defensive rating.
To be clear, Utah State is a very talented team that has gone 26-8 this season. While a conference championship would’ve been huge for SDSU, there’s little shame in losing to a solid team that has several impressive wins on the year.
With the tournament around the corner, the Aztecs will need to collect themselves and play their best basketball of the season in order to make a run for the NCAA title.
