Sen. Pat Bates, (R-Laguna Niguel), announced that the County of San Diego was awarded nearly $500,000 in funding for programs created to decrease homelessness by the California Department of Housing and Community Development Monday.
According to Sen. Bates, the County of San Diego received $453, 822 in grant funding and the Orange County received $605,188.
The funding grants will be allocated towards several programs and services designed to reduce homelessness such as re-housing assistance, emergency shelters, and substance abuse treatment.
Homelessness has been a growing issue throughout California and San Diego County for many years which is why Sen. Bates has engaged in several efforts to combat this issue.
In 2018, Bates co-authored bill AB 448 which was created to reduce homelessness by developing permanent housing in Southern California. Sen. Bates also announced in October a similar grant funding in which San Diego was granted $1.4 million and Orange County $1.1 million.
Bates will continue to work with all levels of government to ensure that every community receives the necessary funding to reduce homelessness.
