San Diego’s Naval Base Welcomes the Navy’s 10th Littoral Combat Ship, the USS Cincinnati

San Diego’s Naval Base recently welcomed the Navy’s 10th Littoral Combat ship, the USS Cincinnati.

The fast, highly maneuverable ship built by Austal USA is equipped with a 57mm main gun, several missile systems, two helicopters, and a helicopter drone.

“The USS Cincinnati and her crew will play an important role in the defense of our nation and maritime freedom,” said Navy Secretary Richard V. Spencer. “She stands as proof what teamwork- from civilian to contractor to military-can accomplish.”

The Navy will be building 38 new ships, with all of the littoral ships, like the USS Cincinnati, being based in San Diego.

They are all modular, reconfigurable vessels designed for surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and mine countermeasures in the littoral regions of the world.
