Republican Party of San Diego County Endorses Candidates in Key Races

Tonight, the Republican Party of San Diego County held its bimonthly Central Committee meeting. The meeting was accompanied by record-breaking attendance with over 1,200 people with the majority of those in attendance there to hear from the candidates in the 50th congressional district; Congressman Duncan Hunter, State Senator Brian Jones, former Congressman Darrell Issa, and former San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio.

The candidates for the 50th district were able to discuss their plans in front of those in attendance  and laid out the changes that they intend to bring if elected.

After the public forum held with the 50th congressional district candidates, the Party held a private meeting for members of the Central Committee to discuss candidates running for the 76th assembly district; Ray Pearson, Michael Murray, and Melanie Burkholder. The Committee also discussed the District 2 County Supervisor candidates, Poway Mayor Steve Vaus and former State Senator Joel Anderson. Lastly, the candidates for City Council District 5, Patrick Batten and Joe Leventhal, were also considered by the Committee members for endorsement.

In the 50th congressional district, the Central Committee decided not to endorse any candidate.

The Republican Party of San Diego County chose to endorse Melanie Burkholder for the 76th assembly district.

As for County Supervisor District 2, the Committee selected Joel Anderson.

Finally, Joe Leventhal was endorsed for the City Council District 5 race.

The Republican Party of San Diego County is very excited to have these candidates represent the Party and its ideals, and move forward to the 2020 elections.
