The annual Miramar Air Show recently took place at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. The annual show is a way for the military and pilots to show civilians an insight into their everyday life, for old and new veterans to connect, and to feature military aircraft on the Miramar flight line.
All aircraft were available for the public to take pictures of and go inside of except for certain planes such as the Yuma Arizona-based F-35B from the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211 because of its sensitive technology. However, many planes such as the U.S. Air Force’s enormous C-S Galaxy Cargo Plane (which is one of the largest military aircraft in the world) was put on display for people to tour inside the aircraft.
Many other remarkable planes such as the A-10 Warthog Attack Aircraft known for its 30mm Gatling gun on its nose, were featured at the air show. Many popular performers such as The British Royal Air Force Red Arrows (who performed on Saturday and Sunday of that week) and the Navy Blue Angels put on a spectacular performance at the Miramar Air Show. The F-35 Lightning II stole the show despite the other impressive aircraft.
Marine Major Timothy Farag stated that San Diego will see its F-35s once the infrastructure and new hanger building is complete. Farag also noted that the jet noise will not be a huge bother to Miramar after running multiple noise studies.
Overall, this year was another special event for the Miramar Air Show, bringing San Diegans together and enhancing familiarity with our excellent military.
