Brian Maienschein Donates $15,000 to San Diego Democratic Party

Maienschein also donated the legal maximum of $4,700 to Lorena Gonzalez, a notoriously far-left San Diego Assemblywoman.

(San Diego, CA) – Recent campaign filings show that newly-minted Democrat Assemblyman Brian Maienschein has been giving heavily to San Diego Democrats in the wake of his January party switch.

Maienschein ended the 2018 election cycle with over $800,000 in his campaign account – money primarily raised from Republicans that supported Maienschein’s contentious reelection against Democratic challenger Sunday Gover.

“Assemblyman Maienschein pulled a bait-and-switch on donors across the state that supported his candidacy as a Republican. It adds even more insult to injury that he is now using that money to donate to liberal causes. Will Maienschein do the right thing and return the hard-earned dollars he received campaigning as a Republican now that he has shown himself to be a liberal Democrat?” asked Tony Krvaric, Chairman of the San Diego County Republican Party.

“As his constituent, I am disappointed in Assemblyman Maienschein’s bait and switch,” said June Cutter. “Beyond giving money he raised from San Diego business owners to anti-business candidates and organizations, his voting record now reflects his new party registration. He cannot truthfully claim that he is the same candidate he was in 2018.”

The 77th District encompasses northern San Diego and portions of North County, including the city of Poway. It also contains the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. The District’s voter registration is nearly evenly split between Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.
