UC San Diego Ranked Best Public University in the Nation

Washington Monthly named the University of California-San Diego the top public university in the nation because of its accomplishments in research, public service, and social mobility.

Over the past 10 years, UC San Diego has been ranked as the top public college nine times. The Institution was also ranked the seventh-best university in the nation, which includes both public and private universities. Of the top 10 rated schools, four of the other institutions were also California universities: UC Davis, UCLA, UC Irvine, and UC Berkeley.

The rankings were determined based off of several factors: the number of recruits and graduates from low-income backgrounds, the number of undergraduate students that pursue a doctorate degree, the production of innovative research, and the success in maintaining an emphasis on the importance of service to the community and country.

According to Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla, UCSD’s ranking demonstrates the university’s vision of a research-oriented, student-centered, and service-oriented public institution.
