El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells Statement on 50,000 Migrants Being Dropped in San Diego County

In less than three months, over 50,000 migrants have been dropped off in our community, contributing to an unprecedented surge in daily border crossings, surpassing 10,000 throughout the country.

The situation has reached an undeniable crisis, and the safety of San Diego County is at stake. Most migrants haven’t undergone proper background checks, and the volume of arrivals continues to overwhelm our local resources, putting our community at risk. The border is in complete chaos.

The strain on our resources, law enforcement, and social services is untenable. We are witnessing a surge that exceeds the capacity of our community to respond effectively, and the consequences of inaction are dire.

The decision by the Board of Supervisors to divert another $3 million from the hard-earned dollars of local taxpayers to support non-U.S. citizens is an outright insult to the millions of San Diegans who are tirelessly working to make ends meet.

We must secure the border for the safety of our country.
