El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells Speaks Out Against County Tax Dollars Being Used for Migrants

El Cajon, CA – I would like to express my deep concern and urgency regarding the upcoming vote by the County Board of Supervisors on the proposed allocation of $3 million for migrants and establishing a migrant center. This decision has significant implications for our community. I strongly encourage our residents to participate in decision-making by attending the upcoming board meeting and voicing their opinions.

The proposal to allocate $3 million local taxpayer dollars for non-U.S. citizens and to create a migrant center is a slap in the face to the millions of hard-working San Diegans who are struggling to get by. Over the past three weeks, we’ve witnessed an alarming influx of over 13,000 migrants being dropped off in San Diego County. This influx has reached a point of sheer unsustainability, and it’s time we recognize the magnitude of the problem. Most migrants haven’t undergone proper background checks, and the volume of arrivals continues to overwhelm our local resources, putting our community at risk. The border is in complete chaos, and San Diego County will now take on the Federal Government’s responsibility. It’s past time we prioritize the safety and well-being of our community members and demand better federal solutions to address this crisis.

The responsibility for managing our border rests with the Federal Government. El Cajon and San Diego County should not bear the brunt of this responsibility, especially when it could divert valuable resources away from our local needs.

As we approach this pivotal decision, I urge our community members to participate actively in the upcoming board meeting and ensure their voices are heard.
