The Democratic Party has long been a champion for the most vulnerable members of society, promising to help those in need and lift them out of poverty. However, once they take office, these promises often seem to fall by the wayside as they focus on policies that will make them look good in the news.
One of the most blatant examples of this is the party’s promise to help unhoused people and struggling citizens. In San Diego, this promise has been nothing but empty rhetoric. Despite the party’s claims to the contrary, there are not enough shelter beds or affordable housing options for those in need, and the waiting periods for those who do apply are outrageous and detrimental to their well-being.
According to ABC News, San Diego County residents who sign up for subsidized housing wait an average of 18 years for placement. This is the longest wait time for public housing of any large U.S. metropolitan area. Even those who apply for housing vouchers that can be used to offset rent for privately owned housing still wait an average of nearly eight years.
These long wait times are especially worrisome for San Diego County residents as rents have surged in recent years, and the number of people falling into homelessness has outpaced the region’s ability to house them. It’s clear that the Democratic Party has failed at governing in this regard, despite their promises to help the most vulnerable members of society.
The Democrat’s focus on policies that make them look good in the news rather than actually helping those in need has become a major problem. It’s time for voters to hold them accountable for their empty promises and demand real solutions that will make a difference in the lives of those struggling to find housing.
