For years, the Democratic Party has dismissed concerns about their progressive agenda as right-wing fearmongering. But now, the state of California is taking a dangerous leap towards communism under the guise of “equity.” Recently, three of the state’s most powerful utility companies, Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas & Electric, and San Diego Gas & Electric, announced a proposal to charge customers based on their income, not their consumption. This outrageous idea goes against the principles of American freedom and is a blatant attack on hardworking citizens for a problem that Democrats have proven they cannot solve.
In the past, capitalism has been the foundation of our economic system, where individuals paid for goods and services based on their usage, regardless of their income level. However, the proposed income-based billing by the utility companies will create a system that penalizes those who earn more and rewards those who earn less. This flawed approach will inevitably result in wealthier individuals seeking ways to hide their income to avoid higher charges, and it will disincentivize hard work, as people realize that earning more money will only result in higher confiscatory charges by the state. The consequences will be dire, with decreased productivity and a declining standard of living.
Marxism has a long history of failure, as it stifles productivity and destroys the incentive to work. By embracing income-based billing, California’s government is veering dangerously towards a failed economic model that rewards need over ability. As the famous Marxist adage goes, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.” This rewards those with needs, but not those with abilities, and gradually erodes the motivation for productivity and success.
It is disheartening to see California’s government succumbing to these damaging policies, and it is important for voters to understand the real consequences of this move towards socialism. Rather than relying on higher taxes and income-based charges to throw money at problems, we need smarter solutions that promote economic growth, incentivize hard work, and reward success. We cannot afford to let our state slide into socialism, and it is crucial for voters to demand better leadership and sound economic policies that truly represent Californian values of freedom, opportunity, and prosperity. Let’s stand up against this dangerous slide toward communism and protect the principles that we all cherish.
