Sunday Gover in the last week filed her 2020 campaign disclosure having zeroed it out. Gover only lost her 2018 run for the 77th District by a little over 600 votes, and in a district, that was strongly in favor of then-Republican Brian Maienschein. Now that Assemblymen Maienschien switched parties and joined the Democrat Party, the Democrat Party has switched candidates as well.
This past November the Democrat Party thought Maienschien was not good enough to be the 77th District Assemblyman but after showing he can win and that he is willing to give them money, they have backed him and thrown their former candidate to the curb.
Gover followed the Democrat Party line and gave the Democrats somebody to believe in. She was a trustworthy candidate that gave the incumbent Republican a run for his money. Brian Maienschein is anything but trustworthy. He already betrayed his constituents while in office by changing parties and the values that got him elected.
Maienschein switched to the Democrat Party, made contributions to the Democrat Party, and now the Democrat Establishment has shoved Sunday Gover aside in favor of Brian, showing that the Democrats are not about empowering women candidates but solely about power. Republican voters can’t trust Brian Maineschein nor can Democrat voters.
Maienschien is a politician that is willing to do whatever politically, as long as it gives him the easiest political victory. The Democrat Party has done the same by backing a man they once completely fought against as their candidate. The Democrats completely abandoned the woman who was loyal to her constituents and the Party for a man with no loyalty but instead does what’s best politically, not what is best for his constituents.
