The recent appointment of Alonso Gonzalez by the Democrats on the Chula Vista city council is a prime example of cronyism and deception at its worst. Despite loud and clear opposition from citizens against the appointment of Devonna Almagro, a known associate of three council members, the council members decided to appoint another friend, Alonso Gonzalez, who has a troubled financial history, including tax debt, DUI charges, suspended business licenses, and a foreclosed property.
This raises serious questions about what the council members knew about Gonzalez’s financial problems before voting for him. If they knew, why did they appoint him to a position of public trust and responsibility? And if they didn’t know, why not? Either way, the council members have shown a lack of judgment and integrity in this decision.
Citizens are encouraged to attend the Chula Vista Council meeting on February 7th at 5:00 pm at the Chula Vista City Hall to reconsider the appointment of Gonzalez and demand that he resign if he can’t handle his own financial affairs. The council members must understand that the citizens expect them to appoint individuals with integrity, honesty, and a commitment to serving the community.
It’s time for the Democrats on the Chula Vista city council to step up and show that they are committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance. The citizens deserve nothing less.
