It is of great concern that the Democrats on the Vista City Council have chosen to relinquish the power of appointing the city’s representative on the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) board to a council majority, instead of allowing the mayor to make the recommendation. This action undermines the authority of the mayor and disregards the wishes of the citizens who elected him.
Additionally, it is disheartening to see that the council majority appears to be placing their own political agenda above the well-being of the residents of Vista. By potentially appointing a representative who supports increasing the cost of living for residents through a driving fee, they are showing a complete disregard for the financial difficulties faced by many of their constituents.
Furthermore, it is troubling that the council majority is willing to pass laws without giving the voters a say, by changing a proposed tax to a fee in order to pass it without voter approval. This is a clear violation of the principle of democratic representation and undermines the trust of the community in the council.
It is crucial that the council acts in the best interests of the people of Vista and chooses a representative who will work to improve the lives of residents, rather than making them worse. The council should exercise their power responsibly and with transparency, as this is the only way to gain the trust and respect of their constituents.
