San Diego Zoo Going Live

On August 10th, the Safari Park and Zoo will be in the spotlight. Featured on Animal Planet, both parks will have a new 10-episode series dedicated to the animals and keepers. Simply called, “The Zoo: San Diego”, it will be broadcasted for 350 million people to watch in over 205 countries and territories.

Along with the animals and keepers, the show will go behind the scenes of both parks’ veterinary facilities along with techniques they use to promote cooperation among their animals. The discussion for the show lasted about one year with the final agreement reached at the end of 2018. The zoo wanted to make sure their animals and keepers were accurately shown with nothing embellished. With filming completed at the end of May, the two-hour premiere is set to air on August 10 at 8 pm. The premiere is set to delve into the lives of three specific animals-the California condor, a Mang mountain viper, and an African antelope known as a klipspringer.

The idea for the San Diego Zoo program is not the first of its kind for Animal Planet. Animal Planet also did a series for the Bronx Zoo and the Georgia Aquarium. Both of these shows not only brought in ratings for the network but also promoted conservation on a national platform. Moreover, it highlighted both the park’s strong dedication to ending extinction. In the end, both parks hope that people will become more motivated and excited to learn about the lives of different animals.
