May 24th, 2022, 18 year old Salvador Ramos walked into Robb Elementary School with 2 loaded assault rifles. He ended up killing a total of 19 students and 2 teachers. He wounded 17 people, and just before that, he shot his grandmother in the forehead.
This has caused massive uproar in the Country, with each side sticking to their opinions and trying to present new ideas and takes to end this epidemic of mass shootings.
In response, Jim Desmond, a member of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors has taken the route of helping “at-risk” youth, as well as “building lifelong bonds with law enforcement and creating a more inclusive and safer campus environment,”
In addition, he also took to social media to show his support for children and families that were affected by this tragedy. “Just seeing the horrific news in Uvalde, Texas. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and children during this extremely difficult time.” Desmond said on Twitter.
Camp LEAD, an organization that helps youth grow in leadership and respect between everyone, has joined in conversations about prejudice, racial discrimination, an exclusivity. The overall goal is to make children feel like they are not outliers or they feel weird near others.
Statistically, it is more common for students to feel anger and violence from everyday harassment. It is up to parents, teachers, and even students alike to make sure that events like these do not happen again, and to make an effort to make anybody’s day just a little bit better.
