The new gas average for California is $6.25 according to the AAA. Gas prices will still be going up, but a new high has creeped its way into the Northern California area.
A Chevron was selling a gallon of regular for $9.60. This location is located in Mendocino, a small coastal village in Northern California. The owner of the gas station, Judy Schlafer, has said that she would have been out of business if not for charging $9.60 for a gallon. “If it continues the way it is, Mendocino won’t have a gas station next year,” said Schlafer.
She explained that her last load of gas bought was roughly 8,880 gallons. The gas had to be paid off within a span of 10 days, and there was no way she wouldn’t have gotten it paid off if not for raising the price. In total, the 8,880 gallons cost $50,000. In the span of 3 months she had said that the price has risen from the normal $20,000 that she usually pays. “I’m going to be lucky if I make the year with all the fees, the regulation, the payroll fees,”
That gas station is the only one in the area that has picked up massive amounts of popularity with tourists and citizens alike. It has been labeled as the highest gas cost in the United States, and the cost for gas still goes up at that station.
Schlafer keeps denying the fact that people have titled her station ‘the most expensive gas in the Country’, and says that gas is that expensive in other places around the Country. People across the states have checked in for places with SFGATE and couldn’t find any stations that had gas listed that high.

Thanks to Matthew for this pic of the Chevron in Mendocino, CA- the most expensive station in the country and the highest price we’ve recorded. It’s over $3/gal higher than the California average and is a definite outlier. #gasprices”
