Elected Leaders, Families & San Diego’s Workforce Speak Out Against SANDAG’s $160 Billion Transportation Plan
WHAT: Elected officials, families and San Diego’s workforce come together to speak out against SANDAG’s $160 billion transportation plan. The proposed taxes that will fund this project include a ½ cent sales tax, an MTS ½ cent sales tax, 2 cent regional fee for every mile driven, a new fee ($1.25 solo ride; $.65 carpool) for Uber & Lyft users and converting 819 miles of roadways into toll lanes. These new fees will greatly hurt San Diego families who already pay the highest prices to drive in the country.
WHEN: Thursday, December 9 @ 9:00AM
WHERE: TBD
WHO: San Diego County Supervisor, Jim Desmond
Poway Mayor, Steve Vaus
San Marcos Mayor, Rebecca Jones
El Cajon Mayor, Bill Wells
Vista Councilmember, John Franklin
Oceanside Councilmember, Christopher Rodriguez
President of the National Black Contractors Association, Abdur-Rahim Hameed
WHY: On Friday, December 10th, SANDAG will vote on a $160 billion transportation plan. The proposed project, which would be the most expensive transportation in history, does not suit the majority of San Diegans. With only 3.5% of San Diegans using public transportation, the large majority of San Diegans are left on the roadways. SANDAG’s new plan abandons critical improvements promised to North and East County residents for the 78, 52 and 67, in favor of public transit for downtown San Diego.
