Tuesday night, Republicans pulled off a major upset in blue Virginia. They pulled off a clean sweep of the three statewide offices on the ballot and reclaimed the House of Delegates. The biggest surprise came in the Lieutenant Governor’s race. Winsome Sears won the race becoming the first woman of color to be elected to the position. Sears is an immigrant from Jamaica, a Marine Corps veteran, and ran a homeless shelter before she entered politics. But according to one MSNBC guest, she aids white supremacist.
Liberal columnist Michael Eric Dyson said that Sears was a “black mouth” for white supremacist. Dyson is a frequent guest on Joy Reid’s show. Dyson said, “ There is a Black mouth moving but a White idea … running on the runway of the tongue of a figure who justifies and legitimates the White supremacist practices. We know that we can internalize in our own minds, in our own subconscious, in our own bodies the very principles that are undoing us. So to have a Black face speaking in behalf of a White supremacist legacy is nothing new.” Dyson’s comments came under fire quickly. Pundit Glenn Greenwald tweeted, “ This is one of the most repugnant and racist segments broadcast by a TV network this this year.” This is not the first time Dyson has come under scrutiny for comments similar to the ones he made on Reid’s show. He called Larry Elder, “Trumpism in blackface” and called Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas “Uncle Clarence” .
Sears saw the comments that Dyson made and has challenged Reid to an appearance on her show.
