The days are drawing closer and closer to the recall election California so desperately needs. The official recall date is September 14th, however, 1.9 million ballots are already going to San Diego County Registered voters. Some people will already be able to cast their votes as early as Monday, August 16th. What voters should expect on their ballots are two questions:
- Do you want to recall the governor?
- If recalled, who do you want to replace him?
The first question is the easiest of the two; the second question has an exhaustive list of candidates for voters to consider. Most notably, talk radio host Larry Elder, former mayor of San Diego Kevin Faulconer, and businessman John Cox. Although there are many candidates, most voters can find commonality on one issue: Newsom has to go. If more than 50% of voters vote to recall the governor, then the replacement candidate with the most votes will be elected.
Once the ballots have been filled out, voters can return them in the pre-paid postage envelope to any U.S. Postal Service office or collection box. The U.S. Postal Service is allowing voters to track their ballots by signing up for “Where’s My Ballot?. Starting Tuesday, Aug. 17, voters can also drop off their ballots at their nearest mail ballot drop-off locations around the county.
September 14th is less than a month away, however, people are encouraged to get out and vote as soon as possible. Voter turnout is vital for every election. With this election in particular, it is critical for the health of California. With every ballot that gets cast, the sooner Newsom gets expelled out of office.
