Amazon is opening a new fulfillment center in Otay Mesa. Monday the company announced that they are beginning the hiring process for 1,500 new employees.
The new center, on 65 acres at Otay Mesa Road and Enrico Fermi Drive, is reportedly the largest building ever constructed in San Diego County. The building sits at over 3 million square feet.
New retail associates will be working alongside robots and other advanced technology to pick, pack, and ship small items from the warehouse, the company said.
This is a big win for San Diego as it will continue to bring more jobs to the county. As the COVID pandemic slowly ends and more people begin to head back to work, this opening comes at a perfect time.
Job candidates must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
The company will be paying $15 an hour to start and will offer benefits and advancement opportunities.
The construction of this center has brought growth to the Otay Mesa area. It has encouraged the resurfacing for roads, other businesses to open, and more consumers to shop in the area. Overall the addition of this warehouse has great benefits to the South Bay area.
