Joe Biden’s presidency has lasted only six months so far, but he’s proposed blowing out the budget with unnecessary stimulus checks while simultaneously promising underwhelming vaccination results. Coming into office, President Biden vowed to vaccinate 100 million Americans in 100 days despite health officials already vaccinating 1 million Americans a day.
Biden initially pushed for 160 million fully vaccinated adults and 70% of the nation’s people to receive at least one Covid-19 shot. But as of July 17, only 142 million adults have been fully vaccinated, and 65% of Americans are at least partially vaccinated. 67% of Americans and 152 million adults are expected to receive one and both vaccines, respectively.
Though Biden will miss both of his intended goals, his administration has kept pushing for herd immunity beyond July 4. They encouraged large corporations and celebrities to campaign on his behalf, asking Uber and Lyft to provide free rides to vaccine centers. States have also instituted incentives from free beer to million-dollar lotteries for fully vaccinated individuals.
The president has blamed anti-mask propaganda for his policy loss, but could it be his own doing? Vaccine rates have dropped from 2.2 million per day to 1.2 million since May 4. The Biden Administration has routinely emphasized the importance of mask-wearing to stop the spread of the virus.
Yet, they claimed that even when you are fully vaccinated, you must wear the mask in public areas, even if others are also fully vaccinated. Perhaps Joe Biden could have met his symbolic victory of herd immunity by July 4, but his own mixed messaging killed any hopes of that.
