On Thursday, Californians for Equal Rights Foundation (CFER) worked with local groups to organize a protest against the teaching of Critical Race Theory in Poway Schools. At a Poway Unified School District meeting, protestors gathered out front to raise awareness and fight the teaching of Critical Race Theory in courses such as Ethnic Studies, and Ethnic Literature. Both of these courses are a part of Poway Unified’s Racial Equity & Inclusion plan which draws teachings from race theorists Ibram X Kendi and Robin DiAngelo who claimed that systemic racism exists in the U.S. and advocated for student activism as the key to destroying it.
A spokesperson for Poway Unified stated “We want to make it clear that Poway Unified School District is not teaching Critical Race Theory… It is disappointing to find some people are misinformed.” However in a breakdown of their Racial Equity & Inclusion plan the Superintendent claims “Yet racism exists, at all grade levels, from elementary to high school, from classmates, from school staff, in the classroom, at lunch, recess and beyond.”
Part of the district’s plan includes adding the courses Ethnic Studies and Ethnic Literature. Taking a closer look at these courses reveals that these classes will not only teach Critical Race Theory but also have students “analyze: institutional, interpersonal, and internalized oppression” and have students answer questions such as “In what ways and by whom have these groups lost power and/or not offered the opportunities to obtain power?”
Critical Race Theory in schools has been all the rage for far-left institutions hoping to teach kids that their worth is valued only by their race, however as proven by recent history, race is one of the least important factors when determining success. Instead of teaching students topics such as starting businesses, investing, and basic economic skills they need to be successful, schools have decided that is best to have students learn an inaccurate, and misguided image of our nation in attempts to indoctrinate students.
