Only days after President Biden signed an executive order which formed a commission to research the idea of packing the Supreme Court, House and Senate Democrats are introducing a bill that seeks to add four new justices to the Supreme Court. The bill is endorsed by House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler, Subcommittee Chair Hank Johnson, and Rep. Mondaire Jones along with Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts.
Ever since President Trump’s appointment of Justice Amy Coney Barrett, Democrats have been sour to the fact that the former president solidified a conservative majority on the nation’s highest court for the first time in decades. Although Biden failed to be transparent on his stances regarding court-packing before the election, he was being pressured by unhinged progressive activists to pack the courts if he were to win the 2020 election.
By introducing this piece of legislation, the Democrats once again prove that they have no desire for any kind of “unity” they advocated for in the 2020 election. The only reason for proposing a bill of such partisan aspiration is because of the left’s inability to say that they do not have power over something. Currently, the Supreme Court consists of a 6-3 conservative-leaning majority after President Trump was able to appoint three justices during his term.
The SCOTUS is the only institution that is preventing Joe Biden and the Democrats from implementing any far-left partisan policies they want, and they cannot handle that fact, which is why they feel the need to bend the rules to work their way. Ultimately, the Democrats do not even care how crazed their ideas are, as long as it will give them power, they are open to defend any proposal.
The idea of court-packing invites ultimate partisanship where laws can become subjective in the only independent branch of government in this country. Many Democrats themselves oppose the notion of court-packing, including Joe Biden himself when he served as a Senator in 1983. Senator Bernie Sanders, a radical left politician, also expressed disapproval of court-packing. Additionally, liberal Supreme Court Justices Stephen Bryer and the late Ruth Bader Ginsberg also condemned the expansion of the highest court in the country.
Court-packing has been seen in a negative light since the last century, when Franklin Roosevelt attempted to add Justices in 1937 with a Democrat majority in the government, but ended up not getting enough support. Unfortunately, the current Democratic party does not care about this country as much as Democrats of the past.
