The Carlsbad Unified School District has sent out a letter to parents and students informing them that a 5-day in-person school week had been approved by the Board.
The letter reads:
Dear CUSD Families,
Last night, the Board approved a return to in-person instruction 5 days a week, both A and B cohorts attending school on campus, for middle and high schools. This will begin Monday, March 29, 2021. The daily bell schedule will remain the same with the addition of Wednesday instruction. Sites will be emailing out the schedule. A Distance Learning Permanent option still remains available for families who do not want to return to in-person 5 days a week. Families who would like to change from Distance Learning Permanent to in-person or from in-person to Distance Learning Permanent must email their school site at the contact listed below to request the change.
Staff will need to ensure the appropriate amount of desks are in each room by the end of the day on Friday in order to be ready for students on Monday morning. Therefore, all requests for changes must be received by tomorrow, March 26th at 12:00 noon.

The letter also provided an email list for parents who want to change their child’s “instructional model.”
However, for many parents and students, this is the news they have been waiting over a year for. Mental health issues among students and parents have been on the rise throughout the pandemic, and school closures have played an enormous role in that.
Now, starting on March 29th, students will be able to return to a normal school schedule!
Melanie Burkholder, co-founder of Carlsbad Families for Reopening celebrated the announcement, saying:
“Carlsbad Families for Reopening Schools is very grateful for the Board’s decision to return to in person instruction 5 days a week beginning Monday the 29th.”
