Republican Party of SD County officially endorses Marco Contreras for 79th Assembly District

With California Governor Gavin Newsom appointing Shirley Weber to the position of Secretary of State, multiple candidates have announced their run to fill her previous seat as 79th Assembly District representative.

Today, however, the Republican Party of San Diego County threw their influence into the mix and officially endorsed Marco Contreras for the seat.

“Mr. Contreras is the strongest candidate for the position. Together we will work to protect our children, rebuild our economy, and preserve the great country that allowed Marco Contreras to live his American Dream,” read a press release issued this morning

Contreras was born in San Diego, but due to financial struggles in his family, he was raised in Tijuana, Mexico. Despite living in Mexico, he was able to attend high school across the border in San Diego and achieve his dream of playing football. He later graduated from the University of San Diego as an Economics major and used his college experience and strong drive to build a successful small business. He is the first member of his family to attend college.

As an immigrant, Contreras understands the idea of the American Dream. After all, the USA is where he was given the opportunity to build something special out of hard work and dedication.

“I know what it’s like to be an immigrant. To start from the bottom. To build, to work, to grow, to contribute. This is the American Dream. This is why I love our country,” Contreras said.

One of Marco’s main focuses is to heal the division created by the heightened partisan politics of 2020 and come together to agree on issues such as safer neighborhoods, better education, and the opportunity to thrive. Marco’s run for election has also proven to be successful. In addition to receiving the party’s endorsement, his campaign stated that he raised over $45,000 in the 24 hours after his announcement.
