On Tuesday, The San Diego Democratic Party withdrew their request for a recount in the Santee City Council District 4 race, but only after a full day of hand-counting ballots failed to alter the results.
“Both sides honestly and fairly evaluated each ballot and the result did not change,” said Bill Baber, an attorney representing Trotter. “San Diegans can have confidence in the integrity of our election system.”
The Santee City Council race for District 4 was among the closest races in the county, if not the closest. Trotter Trumped his opponent, Samm Hurst, but just 5 votes.
Following the vote certification earlier this month Trotter had this to say, “I would like to thank the voters of Santee for having faith in me and trusting me to lead the city in the right direction, I will not let them down. I’d also like to thank the party for all of their support throughout the election, this win wouldn’t have been possible without them. Starting on day one I will work to improve safety, economic prosperity, and social wellbeing for everyone in Santee.”
Now that Trotter is officially the winner and any attempt to contest the votes has been canceled, the people of Santee can look forward to their new City Councilman.
